The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County Black History Program proudly announces the 2025 Maryland Emancipation Day Celebration, a celebration of heritage, resilience, and the forward mobility of African Americans from enslavement through emancipation and beyond.
This year’s theme, “Roads to Freedom: Honoring the Skills and Talents that Paved the Way for Progress,” highlights the cultural knowledge, skills, and talents African Americans harnessed during slavery that became powerful tools for economic growth, cultural pride, and community empowerment after emancipation.
The festival will feature:
- Live Music & Performances featuring The Kim Michelle Experience and more
- Hands-on History Craft Demonstrations
- Heritage Farming Workshops
- Kids & Family Zone
- Classic & Custom Car Showcase
- A special exhibit connecting the story of African American forward mobility, from skills honed in bondage to post-emancipation enterprise, to the freedom and innovation represented by automobiles and travel.
