SUMMARY:Sarah Presley: Silver Spark\, Lucky Star - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Presley creates a conversation between grief and the idea of home in Silver Spark\, Lucky Star. This collection features motifs of residential architecture reminiscent of the small town Presley grew up in\, and one she often returns to in her work. Through bright colors\, family photographs and vintage papers\, Presley evokes memories of home. The etchings and collages\, however\, frequently lack subjects\, leaving them specific to no one and emphasizing the empty\, unobtainable feeling of nostalgia.

SUMMARY:Lydia Peters: The Inward Canvas - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Inward Canvas explores the act of turning internally in a world of constant external noise. This exhibition examines self-healing and restoration\, capturing subjects with closed eyes to symbolize the moment they disengage from the outside world and focus on their “internal map”—the geometric architecture of the soul. Drawing on Pablo Picasso-inspired energy\, Lydia Peters presents personal growth as a literal structural shift\, where color becomes personality and each hue reflects a distinct emotional frequency\, from the vital greens of growth to the royal golds of transcendence. A contemporary fine artist\, Peters uses the human form to document the structural evolution of the human spirit\, offering a visual language for self-restoration and internal alignment that reveals the beauty and complexity of looking within.

SUMMARY:Tim Davis: The Power Rooms - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Power Rooms is an ongoing series of paintings that marks a significant evolution in the practice of Tim Davis. Shifting away from his previous focus on figures and portraits\, Davis utilizes the interior architectural space as a platform for surrealistic reimagining. By transforming walls and floors into narrative landscapes\, he creates immersive environments that invite viewers to step directly into the stories being told.  \n\n\n\nThese purposeful narratives confront the pressing issues of inequality\, discrimination\, racism\, and injustice\, intertwining them with history and culture. Davis’ work remains deeply rooted in the human experience\, specifically the Black experience as it relates to truth and identity. For Davis\, creating art for social change is a catalyst for the meaningful dialogue necessary to heal and find solutions to collective problems. Through these evocative spaces\, The Power Rooms examines the strength of a culture and the vital importance of reclaiming one’s history.

DESCRIPTION:A Lasting Vision is a career-spanning tribute to the life and legacy of Alonzo Davis\, a foundational figure whose influence resonates deeply across the American art landscape. \n\n\n\nThis retrospective explores the evolution of Davis’ practice\, from muralism to his iconic mixed-media series. Using bamboo\, paper\, and found objects\, he crafted a visual language that speaks to migration\, resilience\, and the interconnectedness of the human experience.

SUMMARY:John T. Allen: The Virtual Flesh - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Created within a single day\, each work in The Virtual Flesh is an exercise in immediacy\, memory\, and transformation. Each piece begins as a carefully arranged composition of personal ephemera—cyanotypes\, feathers\, and misprints from earlier work—which Allen photographs and then digitally manipulates. Through this layering of physical and virtual materials\, his work reflects on the passage of time\, using fragments of personal history to summon memories\, moments\, and the quiet accumulation of lived experience.

SUMMARY:Hu Zeqian: New Century Garden - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:New Century Garden presents the work of Chinese artist Hu Zeqian\, who now lives and works in Washington\, D.C. For Hu\, painting is not merely technical but deeply personal\, reflecting the complexity of human experience. His use of vivid color\, often associated with joy and prosperity\, carries layered meaning\, evoking both beauty and unease\, much like the warning signals found in nature. Through balancing visual allure with conceptual depth\, Hu’s paintings reveal that beneath beauty also lies complexity.

SUMMARY:Across the Threshold: Celebrating 25 Years of the Open Studio Tours - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Across the Threshold celebrates a quarter-century of the region’s most intimate and enduring artistic tradition. Long before the official designation of our creative corridor\, the Open Studios tour began as a grassroots effort by local pioneers to invite the public behind the scenes of the creative process. This milestone exhibition honors the 25-year history of those early artists who opened their doors\, shared their crafts\, and laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Gateway Arts District.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing a curated selection of works from across the studios\, the exhibition reflects the grit and collaborative spirit that have defined our neighborhood for decades. From the original artists who first welcomed the community into their workspaces to the new generation currently expanding our boundaries\, this showcase tells the story of a creative community built from the ground up. Join us as we celebrate 25 years of artistic transparency\, mentorship\, and the enduring legacy of the makers who call this region home.

SUMMARY:Adrienne Vodraska: Company of Plants - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition of acrylic paintings reflects Adrienne Vodraska’s deep respect for the abundance\, resilience\, and quiet beauty of plant life. Working primarily from direct observation\, she spends countless hours in meadows\, prairies\, gardens\, and woodland edges\, often during moments of seasonal transition. Rather than focusing on individual plants or flowers\, she focuses on entire ecosystems. The intentional absence of human presence allows the natural world to emerge as the central subject and protagonist.

SUMMARY:George Lorio: Concerns - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Concerns presents George Lorio’s sculptures\, which use social engagement to spark dialogue around ecological loss\, particularly deforestation and climate decline. While the works may initially suggest a trompe l’œil quality\, their intent is not illusion but to draw viewers into deeper reflection. Through abstracted interpretations of trees\, stumps\, and logs\, Lorio explores cycles of growth\, decay\, and renewal observed in nature. Installed as interconnected forms\, these sculptural works highlight the essential role of trees in sustaining environmental balance: capturing carbon\, producing oxygen\, and mitigating climate impact. All the while\, they are underscoring the important consequences of their loss. His works are an antidote to the contemporary land development that focuses more for denuding the landscape of trees in favor of barren parking lots and massive concrete and glass structures.

SUMMARY:Ronna Traylor: Dragonfly Wings: The Beauty of Fractured Planes - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Dragonfly Wings: The Beauty of Fractured Planes presents the work of Alexandria-based artist Ronna Traylor\, a watercolor and mixed media artist who draws inspiration from fleeting moments of light\, reflection\, and structure found in everyday life. Transforming these observations into layered visual studies\, Traylor’s recent series focuses on the delicate yet resilient form of dragonfly wings. Wings are rendered in watercolor with accents of gouache and gel pen. Inspired by both macrophotography and imagination\, the works explore themes of fragility and strength through fractured\, luminous planes\, capturing the transformation of a passing image into a lasting work of art.

SUMMARY:Anna Demovidova: Between Memory and Dream - Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:Between Memory and Dream presents the work of Anna Demovidova\, whose paintings and mixed-media works move fluidly between lived experience and imagined space. Drawing from candid moments and personal memory\, Demovidova creates intimate scenes where figures become emotional stand-ins\, expressing states of grief\, tenderness\, vigilance\, and resilience. Nature appears as a protective\, symbolic presence\, while everyday rituals: meals\, tea\, and quiet pauses become acts of care and survival. Through layered brushwork and a combination of acrylic\, drawing\, and printmaking\, her work explores solitude not as isolation\, but as a vital space for reflection\, endurance\, a sense of play and problem solving along with self-renewal.
