Community & Club Opportunities

Join one of Clearwater Nature Center's clubs and join the members for monthly meetings to explore a topic or to learn a craft. Rock and Mineral Club memberships run for the duration of the calendar year (January 1-December 31). Basket Bunch memberships run annually from the day you join.

To become a member of a club, please stop by Clearwater Nature Center during business hours (Monday-Saturday: 8:30 am-5 pm; Sunday: 11 am-4 pm). If you do not already have one, you will also need to set up SMARTlink account

The Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club

The Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at Clearwater Nature Center in Clinton, MD. Speakers and field trips are planned for jewelry makers, fossil hunters, mineral enthusiasts, and laymen just interested in beautiful stones. Guests are welcome! Club dues: Adults $15 ($20 non-resident) and Youth $10 ($13 non-resident). Please call the nature center for information about joining or visit the SMRMC website

Basket Bunch

The basket bunch meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 9:30 am to 3 pm to share ideas and learn how to collect natural materials and fashion them into beautiful and functional baskets. Members receive a monthly newsletter with details for the coming month's project. Membership dues are $25 ($33 non-resident).

Teen & Adult Volunteers

Adults and youth (ages 13 & up) are needed year-round to assist nature center staff to support animal care, gardening, and the removal of invasive plants. For more information about volunteer programs offered by Clearwater Nature Center, please contact Park Naturalist Stephanie Jacob.
