Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission to Waive Fees for Furloughed Employees:
Child Care Fees to be Waived During Government Shutdown

Riverdale, MD - The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will waive fees for furloughed employees affected by the on-going government shutdown.

Effective January 12, 2019 before and after childcare and preschool fees for furloughed residents currently registered will be waived during the time of the shutdown. In addition, facilities will waive the requirement for membership fees to use the fitness rooms. The Department of Parks and Recreation will waive the following fees for Prince George’s County residents only:

  • A ‘Furlough Membership’ for the Fitness Rooms Only at all 44 community centers, senior activity centers, Wayne K. Curry Sports & Learning Center, Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex, and Allentown Splash, Tennis and Fitness Park for any furloughed worker.
  • Waiving before & after childcare fees at Community Centers and Therapeutic Recreation including Pre-School, Leisure Skills Development, Leisure & Life Skills, Kids Care, Morning Care, Kids Club, Extended Care, and Kids Day Out for any dependent of furloughed workers.

An official furlough letter must accompany all requests for fee waivers. Prince George’s County has set up a website that provides links to all available resources for furloughed employees.
